If you were disappointed, like many of us were, by Quentin Tarantino’s legendary explosion and subsequent cancellation of a new western he was working on last year, you would probably have been overjoyed with last months news.
In the style of Buffy, Star Wars, Firefly and Army Of Darkness, the story of Django is planned to continue in comic form, much to the delight of fans and chagrin of people who hate reading.It was rumoured that the untitled western project was intended to be the sequel to the 2012 Box Office giant, but Tarantino had cancelled the movie project over a leaked script. Luckily, in his usual recalcitrant style, he has opted to change his mind teaming up with Matt Wagner for Django II:
”I’m very very excited about both this story and the opportunity to work with Matt (Wagner),It was reading his stories that convinced me what a good idea it was to join these two icons together. And the story idea we came up with is thrilling, and I think will be an exciting and new chapter for both characters.”
Wait, both characters? Two icons?
Oh yeah, Zorro’s in it too.
Dynamite (owners of Zorro comic rights) and DC (owners of Django comic rights) are joining forces to allow for what could be an epic crossover event, with two instantly recognisable characters that will be fascinating to explore. We all know that Wagner and Tarantino have the writing chops, but the project will really hinge on the quality of artist, who has yet to be announced.
Nothing has been stated so far as to plot, but hopefully it’ll stay that way. We all know how Quentin gets.
