Remember when horror films were scary, disturbing ,gave you nightmares and they had amazing practical fx before everything got watered down for mass consumption and replaced with bad CG?
John D. Wagner and Brian Keene, celebrated Bram Stoker Award winning horror writer do, that’s why they’re wanting to make a film of Keene’s celebrated opus ‘The Cage’. In order to avoid jumping through hoops and changing x,y, or z just because some suit doesn’t like it they need help though.
The Cage tells the story of just another night at Big Bill’s Electronics where several employees are closing up for the night when they get a visit from a man with a shotgun which turns out to be far from the worst part of their evening.
A cast has been assembled with experience in numerous horror films of varying budgets including Zach Gilligan (Gremlins, Hatchet 3), Megan Duffy (Maniac), Hannah Fierman (V/H/S, The Unwanted), Samantha Hahn (Blood Night The legend of Mary Hatchet) and more besides.
Director Wagner, producer Brian James Fitzpatrick, and the Director of Photography Chad Courtney are used to working on small budget productions and the sacrifices it requires with 18 hour days and sharing one hotel room par for the course.
Practical FX will be handled by the Emmy nominated Jeremy Selenfriend of Monster in my Closet with credits for Boardwalk Empire, The Amazing Spiderman 2, Men in Black 3, Chernobyl Diaries and many more.
Keene himself had this to say,
‘I’m thrilled with the screenplay and excited by the team that’s been assembled. It’s always a daunting prospect when your work is adapted by others for another medium, but I have absolute confidence and belief in this project and the people involved. I can’t wait to see it!”
Whilst Director John D. Wagner noted,
“Myself and everyone involved feel a great responsibility to do this intense, mind bender of a film “right”. Not just for ourselves, but for all the different groups of fans out there who expect us to do good by them. There’s no stunt casting, no gimmicks. Just good, talented folks who are thrilled to be doing this movie.”
