Cosplay Interview #8 Yaya Han

Cosplay

You have been playing the cos for 13 years now, so how did it all first come about and what made you think; “yeah I’m going to get dressed up as a cartoon character and parade around in public” ?

There was never a question, as soon as I realized that you can do that, I wanted to do it! As  fan, it seemed like the most natural way to express which characters you loved the most. I still feel that way.

What characters have you portrayed so far?

Hah! If you’re asking me to list all 200+ characters I’ve cosplayed, this interview will become a boring list. Please visit my website www.yayahan.com for galleries of my cosplays. I’ve made costumes spanning many genres like anime, manga, video games, American comic books, J-pop, Movies, TV shows, Fantasy artwork, original designs etc.

What is your favourite costume to date and what one was the hardest to make?

It’s hard to pick favorites because I feel attached to all the costumes I’ve made, but some are indeed more fun to wear, such as:

Ada Wong –  because it’s easy to pose in this costume, and it’s so comfortable.

My Peacock costume – because I had so much fun with the design and creation of this outfit

Catwoman – I love cosplaying her as a character!
Carmilla – which is also the hardest costume I’ve made. To read the full construction notes on her, please visit this link: http://yayahan.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=209&Itemid=266

Any costumes out there you would love to make but just don’t think you could pull it off?

I never say never lol.

I know you got to a lot of Cons but what is your favourite convention to go to and why?

Dragoncon and Katsucon! Both are very cosplay friendly and some of the best costumes can be seen at both. They’re held in hotels so you can put on very elaborate costumes and simply go down the elevator to be in the middle of the con. It makes cosplaying easy and fun!

General Questions

What does Geek Pride (not the awesome website and FB page, but the way of life) mean to you?

Being a proud geek allowed me to make a living doing what I love, travel, dress up as my favorite characters every weekend and make friends all over the globe. I’m really very glad to have turned out to be a geek.

StarWars or Lord of the Rings?

Star Wars – but only Episodes IV, V and VI.

If you were given one super power, what would it be and what would you use it to do?

Definitely the power to stop time, since I’m always working against a deadline. Oh, or the power of the Flash! Then I could get a tons more done lol.

Anything else you’d like to say?
