Game of Thrones casting announcements for Season 5!
We’ve all been waiting for it, don’t deny it. Ever since the Martells have first set foot in King’s Landing there have been speculations about who the best actors are to portray their leader and the infamous Sand Snakes. Recently the casting choices for them, as well as for other new characters that will be introduced in season 5 have been made public and at least one news made me (and many others) jump up and down with joy.
Alexander Siddig (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Da Vinci’s Demons) has been chosen to portray Doran Martell, the older brother of the very popular with the fans, Oberyn (Pedro Pascal). The actor has been fan cast for a while, particularly on social media and for once, it seems like someone paid attention.
Some of the other actors and actresses that will play his family members are: Toby Sebastian, who will star as Trystane Martell, Rosabell Laurenti Sellers, as Tyene Sand, Jessica Henwik as Nymeria Sand and Keisha Castle-Hughes as Obara Sand. Myrcella Baratheon, who has been residing in Dorne for quite a while will also return to the show, this time portrayed by Nell Tiger Free. Still in Dorne we’ll get to meet DeObia Oparei as Areo Hotah, the captain of Dorne’s guards.
Other than the Martells, Enzo Cilenti has been announced as Yezzan zo Quaggaz, a slave trader from Yunkai and Jonathan Pryce as the High Sparrow, the High Septon of the Faith of the Seven.
Their introductory video is a nice reminder that while they are all actors that will portray characters beloved or hated by most everyone, they are still as excited as we are about the show. I think that is a good sign when it comes to television. Someone that loves a show is less likely to ruin it, right?
