Independence Day: Resurgence Trailer is out

by on 14/12/2015

In a world of prequels/sequels and generally unoriginal and unpromising plots, Independence Day: Resurgence threw its hat into the ring, hoping to deliver what so many before it failed to do: excitement, adventure and…a movie that won’t be blamed for nipping several careers in the bud. At least unlike some sequels, this one is actually warranted.

That aside, I have to admit the trailer does look good, it’s dark, gritty and still manages to convey the idea that humanity will thrive both out of sheer stubbornness and due to its uncanny ability to band together in times of need.

The story is simple, the aliens that had once attacked Earth and were sent packing in the original are returning, except this time humanity (thinks) it’s ready. But if that were the case, we would have no story, so I expect a few twists and turns to keep our blood pumping for around 120 minutes.

Will Smith is not in the sequel that takes place some 20 years after the events of the original movie, but the writers and the director, Roland Emmerich promised this will only make sure the focus of the story is equally divided between the members of the cast, which includes: Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Jeff Goldblum – all returning to their roles, as well as newcomers Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe and Joey King to name just a few.

The movie has a premier date of June, 2016, barring any delays. Until then, the trailer will have to do. Though for the love of god, can we stop using the same sound effect in every single trailer to create dramatic tension?
