Yahoo to the Rescue as Community gets it’s Sixth Season

As all hope was lost and fans prepared to mourn the cult comedy, in swoops Yahoo! and pulls Community to safety for a sixth season and just in the nick of time. On the 30th June the actor’s contracts were set to expire releasing them from any commitment rendering the #SixSeasonsAndAMovie hashtag nothing more than a meme set to be mocked by social media trolls.

Thankfully the fans can rejoice, knowing their loyalty and campaigning have actually worked for once, as Community is confirmed for 13 episode run with Dan Harmon and Chris Mckenna at the helm, to be aired on Yahoo! Screen. Season 5 regulars – Joel McHaleGillian JacobsYvette Nicole BrownAlison BrieDanny PudiKen Jeong and Jim Rash will all be returning.

Via Yahoo! “I am very pleased that ‘Community’ will be returning for its predestined sixth season on Yahoo,” Harmon said in a statement. “I look forward to bringing our beloved NBC sitcom to a larger audience by moving it online. I vow to dominate our new competition. Rest easy, ‘Big Bang Theory.’ Look out, ‘Bang Bus!”

Series star McHale added, “The reports of our cancellation have been greatly exaggerated.” —Mark Twain   (The other version of this quote has been wrong for years). # SixSeasonsAndaMovie is real.   Thank you Sony. Thank you Yahoo. Thank you Dan Harmon. And thank you to the greatest   f%$#ing fans in the history of the human race. It’s the internet. We can swear now.”

With the sixth season confirmed it is highly likely a movie will follow since Harmon once said “I mean, if they do a sixth season, I have to participate. And having done that, if the movie has to be made out of clay and duct tape in my basement, then that’s how the movie will be made, because there has to be closure.”

Community’s journey has not been an easy one with the ‘will they, won’t they’ cancel it rumours for years, cast members leaving and the departure and subsequent reinstatement of it’s creators; yet despite all this it seems the fans won out in the end. Does that mean there is still hope for Firefly?
