Monty Python to Reunite for Stage Show!

In a month where the whole world is obsessing over Doctor Who, another remarkable British icon is suddenly back in the spotlight. In an announcement more unexpected than the Spanish Inquisition, the five surviving members of Monty Python have announced that they will be reuniting for a stage show!

This will be the first time that the group has performed on stage together since they were honoured by the American Film Institute in Aspen, Colorado in 1998.

Terry Jones, who directed three of the Python’s four cinematic releases, told the BBC that the group is “getting together and putting on a show – it’s real”. He added “I’m quite excited about it. I hope it makes us a lot of money. I hope to be able to pay off my mortgage!”

Meanwhile fellow Python Eric Idle, who wrote the famous ‘Always Look On The Bright Side of Life’, told his twitter followers that a press conference was scheduled for Thursday 21st of November: “Press Conference Thursday will apparently be live on Sky News” he tweeted, “I’ll get you the online URL”.

Since 1983’s The Meaning of Life, their last full-time collaborative project, the five surviving members of Monty Python have gone on to have extremely successful careers in various fields. Terry Jones and Michael Palin have become renowned documentary filmmakers, Eric Idle has experienced tremendous success with Spamalot, his musical stage adaptation of Quest For The Holy Grail. Terry Gilliam is a cult film director and John Cleese, who is also renowned for his landmark sitcom Fawlty Towers, has starred in an array of comedic and dramatic roles. Graham Chapman, the sixth member of the influential troupe, died of cancer in 1989.

Will this be a nostalgia tour? One last chance to showcase their most well-known material? Or will the legends write brand new sketches? We want to hear from you! Tell us what you think in the comment section below! And check back here on Thursday for our recap of the press conference, when you’ll be able to find out where you can silly-walk your way to buying tickets for this once in a lifetime event!
