The Flying Man

A new superhero is coming, only this time it’s on his terms. Will he still be considered a hero?

This really cool short film, and the directorial debut for SFX man Marcus Alqueres, gives us a brief glimpse of a realistic, mysterious super hero, focusing on the questions of vigilantism and justice. Alqueres has done a great job here- the effects are brilliant, especially considering the budget and time scale, but do not dominate the film, which is well-paced and carefully constructed to give us very deliberate perspectives on the events.

Released on the 8th of July the film got chosen as a Vimeo Staff Pick within the first two days of release, and is getting a lot of positive attention around the internet. Alqueres has chosen to bypass the film festivals and traditional release routes and go for a solely internet distribution. He has a great Facebook page for the film, with lots of production info and interaction, and an active Twitter account for updates and info.

The film is entertaining and engaging as a short, but could also be a really good start to bigger things- if this was a trailer I would be watching the full film!
