The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

After a moment of silence for the Orlando victims, Reggie Fils-Aimé opens the Nintendo Treehouse event at E3 2016. He’s straight to the point with bringing up the focus of the live stream – The Legend of Zelda. Link has been with us for three decades now and apparently the upcoming game could totally change the thinking of the series so far once again. Time for the first trailer…

‘Open your eyes’ echoes as we see our hero riding, hunting, fishing, climbing, back-flipping and generally kicking ass. Whilst Link has certainly developed more moves over recent years, this is something entirely different. We see him controlling water to create platforms, scaling cliffs and wearing some pretty darn awesome armour. Oh, and that beautiful shot of the sword just before the title, dayum. Finally, after several years of waiting, we’re rewarded with the title of the next instalment, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The game looks absolutely stunning and the name seems incredibly fitting. Reggie comments that Breath of the Wild brings us the adventure of a lifetime and not only does the world feel vast, but it feels alive. Apparently this game will be the biggest experience ever created by Nintendo and the folk at E3 this week will only be exploring a snippet of the huge world on offer.

Those lucky bastards at E3 will be exploring one single plateau of this vast world, and Reggie reckons they won’t even manage to explore this whole fraction over the next week. Breath of the Wild is going to break all boundaries of the previous titles in the series and be a huge deal for both the Wii U and the NX.

There’s still been no indication of a release date for the title, other than a vague ‘2017’. We’re escorted over to a live play through of Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon as a distraction before the Zeldatastic fun continues. With Nintendo Treehouse still in full swing, I’m sure there will be more news to come later as we’re promised a whole day of Link’s latest adventures.
