SEGA have held a special place in my heart since I first picked up a controller.

My first taste of console gaming was visiting my cousin and him kicking my butt on Street Fighter II, bearing in mind I was maybe 5 or 6 at the time and hadn’t mastered my sick skills yet, but still, my humiliation aside, I couldn’t help but be delighted at the sights and sounds in front of me as fireballs jumped from people’s hands, as planes blew up robots and as a little blue hedgehog ran around fighting a fat man with a ludicrous moustache.

It’s little wonder then that I’ve always thought fondly of SEGA as a company, and will always hold a soft spot for the classics from the Mega Drive days.

Over the past several years, SEGA have reissued their Mega Drive Classics over multiple formats, including on PC through Steam.
Very soon (April 28th), Steam will have access to a brand new central hub for the Mega Drive Collection, created by d3t and designed to look like every young gamer’s dream bedroom from the early 90s.

Unf. Look at that CRT.

Unf. Look at that CRT.

All of these existing Classics titles will be updated and remastered to be used through this new hub, with graphical enhancements, the ability to save states, local four player co-op and fully mapped keyboard and controller support.

But, most importantly, all of these Classics will now be supported by the Steam Workshop, meaning that the Steam community will be able to create mods.

Yes! That’s right! We can now make mods, for Mega Drive games. Do you have any idea what this means? Having experienced the joys of the modding community through the Steam workshop, this prospect has me more excited than a puppy with a new squeaky toy.
I can’t wait to see just what becomes available for the already extensive list of Classics available through Steam.

On top of this and and if that wasn’t good enough, to celebrate this new venture, the entire collection of Mega Drive Classics are currently on sale at 66% off their normal price!

I’d definitely suggest to anyone out there with thick rimmed nostalgia goggles that you need to check out these offers.

I’ll be expanding my collection.

In the meantime, I’ve been and shall remain,
Craiggy.
