Aquaman Unleashed

So as I’m sure many of you have seen, the first image of Jason Momoa as Aquaman was unveiled earlier. If, you haven’t seen it, the image is below. For those of you that have, despite the character’s departure from the orange top most frequently seen in the comics, I think we can all agree he’s looking pretty darn cool. When you’ve got someone like Jason Momoa, in all his testosterone fuelled glory of musculature, you’re hardly going to cover him up. Hence, rippling pecs and a more warrior-like look that, aside from fitting better to the actor, may give an intriguing hint as to the direction that Zack Snyder and co. plan to take with the character.

Momoa will first cameo as Aquaman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (to be released March 25th, 2016) before appearing in Justice League Part One (2017) and then, finally, getting his solo film in 2018. Aside from the difference in look, which is hinting more towards the rough and tough king portrayal which most commonly sees the Atlantean sporting a hook hand and ignores the blonde hair of the original by favouring Momoa’s naturally dark colouring with nothing more than blonde highlights in his hair, it is notable that the poster bears the tagline “Unite the Seven”. The natural, and obvious, assumption would be to guess that this is a reference to the Seven Seas, particularly given Snyder’s accompanying tweet of “There is only one true king”. To take the tagline this way merely tells us that the portrayal is presumably committing hard to the Atlantean royalty aspect of the character. To look at it in a different way though, we may see that the Seven could in fact refer to the League (Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg if we focus on the likely core group). If so, we may be seeing more character reveals sooner than expected.

However the Seven tag plays out, it can be agreed for sure that Momoa is looking incredible. Say what you will about Zack Snyder but he sure knows how to present with style. Hopefully we’ll be hearing more about the upcoming film soon and maybe seeing more character profiles. Until then, check out the Aquaman picture below and tell us what you think on Facebook, Twitter or in the comments below.
