After first being rumoured in Variety last year, it seems that Disney Theatrical Productions will be going ahead with their stage adaptation of The Princess Bride.
No details have emerged yet regarding who will be involved or whether we will be looking at a musical however Disney’s Alan Horn does sound pretty excited about the project. The Studios Chairman was quoted as saying “My involvement in The Princess Bride goes back to 1987 and it has always been close to my heart…for all those years and a few more, I’ve been friends with the brilliant Bill Goldman, and to now have a stage production of this film in development at Disney is honestly a dream come true.”
Not only does The Princess Bride have a passionate and enthusiastic fan following but remains well respected and fondly remembered by those involved in the original movie production. Many of the cast and crew reunited last year for a 25th anniversary event so there could even be a chance of some of them joining this new live version. The project is still very much in the early stages of development at the moment so for now let’s just hope it both continues and manages to live up to our expectations.
