Death by Stereo!

Chroma Hero 2

Two dev studios have come together to bring the world something extraordinary – Chroma. Harmonix have been serious innovators for the games industry, bringing us big titles such as Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Dance CentralHidden Path are the team behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, one of the world’s most popular First Person Shooters (as I write there are over 89,000 people online playing it right now).

What these guys are bringing us is an online and PC based First Person Shooter where combat, movement and even the terrain are influenced by music. Yes, we have a fully music driven FPS. Does that sound odd? Damn right that sounds odd, but if the concept hasn’t sufficiently piqued your interest yet then have a quick look at the trailer that has just been released for the game’s announcement.

In the heat of battle, running and jumping are enhanced if you can execute them whilst beat-matching. There are multiple classes to choose from and they each have their own musical style, some of which even have to beat-match to fire their weapon. The concept seems mind-blowing but if anyone can pull this incredible genre mash-up off successfully then these are the development teams to do it.

From the Harmonix press release:

Cambridge, MA – February 17th, 2014 – Today, Award-winning developer Harmonix announced an original free-to-play, music-driven, first-person, multiplayer shooter for PC – Chroma™. Developed in partnership with Hidden Path Entertainment (Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Defense Grid: The Awakening), Chroma completely reimagines the classic Arena FPS formula, infusing fast-paced shooter action with music-driven gameplay.

Chroma is due to launch later in 2014 for the PC via Steam and the game will be free-to-play. If you want a chance to get involved with the game during its development then they are looking for participants to test their Alpha Build which you can check out using the link below.
