By Grabthar’s Hammer! A possible Galaxy Quest sequel?
“Never Give Up! Never Surrender!” The battlecry of the NESA Protector’s Commander Peter Taggart.
It appears to have become the tagline for fans of the cult classic film Galaxy Quest as they have taken it to heart in hopes of a sequel.
Sadly for fans at this present moment in time the only sequel they will be seeing is in comic book form. At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, IDW Publishing made the announcement that they will be carrying on the story of a Star Trek-esque television show that are mistaken for actual heroes by a group of very gullible aliens called Thermians.
However, all might not be lost for fans hoping for a sequel, to celebrate the film’s fifteenth anniversary, MTV brought together many of the people involved in the film, during the program it tells of the unknown story of how the film was made. At the end of the show many of the cast and crew seemed very enthusiastic about the possibility of a new film.
Tim Allen (Commander Peter Taggart): There’s a sequel somewhere. It’s written, but I haven’t really gotten a straight answer about it.
Robert Gordon (Writer): On the record, I definitely have ideas for a sequel. Off the record, OK, turn your recorder off
Sigourney Weaver (Gwen DeMarco): Tell Bob, tell Dean, we are all ready for a sequel. I still have my costume!
This continues with Sam Rockwell (Guy Fleegman), Justin Long (Brandon) and Alan Rickman (Alexander Dane) all seemingly happy with the idea of a sequel. Tim Allen even goes so far as to pitch his own idea for a sequel:
‘It’s 15 years later. The Thermians come back, but they haven’t aged. Maybe they don’t have warp anymore so it took 15 years. They have to search for a new homeland. Sarris [the main villain] is gone but his family never forgets and you take it from there.‘
If the ‘Brown Coats‘ can get a Firefly film made, ‘Marshmallows‘ a Veronica Mars film, then what is stopping fans banding together to get a Galaxy Quest sequel?
