Deadpool encourages us to touch ourselves
Of all the campaigns I’ve seen when it comes to cancer, especially Testicular; The Marketing ideas coming out of Marvel Studios and Disney are hitting the nail on the head. Starring Ryan Reynolds, and due out this February, the film promotion has hit a lot of high marks with their outlandish billboards, cheeky posters and some eyebrow raising TV spots that would have a televangelist blushing. This on the other hand was inspiring.
On a subject that hits close to home for myself and to have a character like Deadpool be a voice for a campaign like #touchyourselftonight, is brilliant. He’s outspoken, brash, sarcastic and always humorous but in this instance it’s a serious topic and everyone’s favourite Merc with a Mouth is able to find the funny in something that effects 1 in 5 men all around the world.
The registered charity in question is “Ballboys”, they’re raising awareness and educating the population (not just the guys) on the facts, figures and issues while also providing resources and information to anyone who is concerned about, or directly affected; Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young men aged 15-49 years old, but it is one of the most curable cancers if detected early.
Thankfully we have Deadpool to encourage us to “touch ourselves” and not since The Divinyls have we been more inclined to agree.
