Marvel and Sony Hugged It Out: We’re Getting Marvel Cinematic Universe Spidey!

Spidey excited

Are you happy, Geek-Pride readers?

Because I sure am.

In a press release issued Monday night, we’ve learned that Spider-Man will be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first in an upcoming film and then in his own stand-alone movie franchise. That’s set to happen July 28th, 2017. That’s right, people, these aren’t idle promises. They’ve given us a date.

Can you guess what the upcoming film where we’ll first see Spidey will be? Maybe something to do with a war…or an age of…something?

But wait, there’s more.

They are also looking into including MCU characters in the upcoming Spider-Man films. That’s right, they’re going both ways.

Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, says “Marvel’s involvement will hopefully deliver the creative continuity and authenticity that fans demand from the MCU.”

Ah yes, the much adored “C” word of geek-dom: Continuity. Excitement levels are bordering on inappropriate at this point.

The announcement has caused some release dates for future projects to switch around; Spidey’s release date was originally scheduled to premier Thor: Ragnarok, which will now be released November 3, 2017. Black Panther will now move to July 6, 2018, Captain Marvel to November 2, 2018, and Inhumans will now premier July 12, 2018.

It no longer has to come to this!

Are you excited to see old web-head join the MCU? Which MCU characters would you like to see cross over into the Spidey-verse?
