Pacific Rim News – a sequel, a comic, a TV series!

On the 27th of April 2017, man and machine will once more team up to cancel the apocalypse (…again) in the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim. The sequel will have Guillermo del Toro helm the director’s chair, as well as have him write the movie with Travis Beacham (who was a co-writer for the first movie), and Zack Penn (whose work includes X2Alphas and The Avengers).

In an interview with Buzzfeed, Guillermo del Toro gave us a small morsel of information to digest whilst we wait;

The characters I love will return. Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.

But wait…there is more!

In a video hosted by Legendary‘s Youtube channel, Guillermo del Toro reveals that there is more than just a sequel on the way – an animated television series is set to be produced, as well as a continuation of the Pacific Rim comic book series (a series which was called Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero, and acted as a prequel to the events of the film, and was written by Travis Beacham and supervised by Guillermo del Toro himself).

Details are still thin, and we are unsure of the specifics. Will the comic series continue telling stories of Jaegars who were famous before the events of Pacific Rim? Will the animated series be an original work, and feature cameos of well-known characters from the film?

All we know is that it means – as Guillermo del Toro aptly puts – “more kaijus, more jaegers, kicking each others’ butt”.
