The producers released an SDCC trailer for Kong: Skull Island, starring Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, and John C. Reilly at their panel yesterday, the 23rd July.
With a dash of added ‘Apocalypse Now’, set during the 70s, hence the Vietnam War vibe, the adventure takes place on an uncharted Pacific island, and the titular ape is definitely huge. There’s some slightly more modern air to ground action with Kong playing ‘Swat the Huey’, and I’m guessing we’ll get a chance to revisit the smell of Napalm in the morning while they show Godzilla who’s in charge….. Apparently it’s the next instalment in a franchise that started with Godzilla, and it’s the story of how Kong became Kong, so it’s another origin story before we get a monster mash.
Filmed in Hawaii starting October 2015, Kong: Skull Island is scheduled to be released in the United States on March 10, 2017, a small slip from the original announcement in 2014 that it would be released on November 4, 2016.
Ears to the ground, if we play our cards right we may get Mothra by 2020!
