Just days after ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ being announced as part of a deal from Simon Kinberg, writer and producer of the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, to create an X themed ‘Marvel style’ cinematic universe it’s been revealed that Hugh Jackman is having doubts about returning to the role of Logan aka Wolverine.
In an interview to the promote the DVD/Blu-ray release of ‘The Wolverine’ Jackman said,
‘I don’t know whether or not I will do this next movie, I am really proud of this movie and I am excited to develop something with [The Wolverine director] Jim Mangold from the beginning because that is a great ride. That’s exciting, to see what we come up with but I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be [for me to star in it] and if it doesn’t reach those, I won’t be doing it.’
It’s early days though as Jackman also said
“No there is not [a script in place],” “but Jim Mangold and I were literally on the phone last night talking about ideas but there is no script and no writer yet so it’s a way off.”
Which raises a potential problem for Fox, Hugh Jackman has portrayed the essentially immortal canadian with the adamantium claws since Bryan Singer’s X-Men in 2000 and
for many is the lynchpin and face of Fox’s X films.
With another 3 films set to potentially feature Wolverine, X-Men: Apocalypse, the upcoming X-Force and the aforementioned third Wolverine centred film Jackman, who ages in real time unlike Wolverine, might not be interested in several more years in the role.
