Mighty No. 9 Beta Footage

At PAX 2014, we are finally got to see some beta footage featuring gameplay for the eagerly awaited spiritual successor of Mega Man. Given this is beta footage, we can only assume that the final product is going to look fantastic. Don’t believe me? See for yourself!

For those who don’t know, Mighty No. 9 is the Kickstarter project from Comcept, an independent Japanese game design and development studio formed in 2010 by industry veteran Keiji Inafune. Inafune is best known as the illustrator and co-designer of the Mega Man character.

From the footage, we can see just how similar to the original Mega Man games this project is turning out to be. The character walks the length of the stage, firing his arm cannon and merging with defeated enemies (for points and combos – an interesting way to ensure replayablity to get higher scores and beat friends). And the soundtrack…my god…you can tell that the composers worked on the scores of previous Mega Man games.

Having reached $3,845,170 from an original $900,000 goal, the project shows that the world still has a place for the old classics, even if it is given a modern upgrade graphics-wise.
