Netflix Gets International Rights for Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn Series

Untitled-1

Netflix has picked up the international rights to broadcast the upcoming From Dusk Till Dawn series from Robert Rodriguez.

From Dusk Till Dawn was a B-move/grindhouse-inspired genre mash-up of crime and horror that appeared in the mid 90’s. Written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by Robert Rodriguez, it told the story of the Gecko brothers – the calm and collected Seth (George Clooney playing against type) and the mentally unhinged Richie (played by Tarantino) who are wanted by the F.B.I and Texas police for a bank robbery in which several people died. On their way to Mexico to evade the law, things get even messier after Richie guns down a ranger in a liquor store and the pair end up kidnapping a family for the ride. Waiting to rendezvous with contacts at a brothel named the ‘Titty Twister’, the brothers discover the club is a nest for brutal vampires who have been feeding off bikers and truckers for years…

The film was a precursor to Tarantino and Rodriguez’s Grindhouse features and Rodriguez’s later Machete films and became a cult hit despite poor box office.

Now the film is serving as the basis for a 10-episode series produced and directed by Robert Rodriguez and which looks set to tell an extended version story of the Gecko brothers, featuring DJ Cotrona and Zane Holtz as Seth and Richie Gecko alongside FBI and Texas Rangers Earl McGraw and Freddie Gonzalez.

The series starts March 11 in the U.S on the El Rey network with episodes being available 24 hours after broadcast.
