Preview – Star Crossed Coming to CW

 Star-Crossed

I like the CW network, I really do. For one, their shows are riddled with good looking people (in such an amount that my expectations of reality have severely increased). Secondly, some of these shows are actually good: Arrow, The Tomorrow People, and Supernatural… I’ll stop there because that’s about all I watch from them, but that might change with their fall line-up.

Star Crossed is just one of the shows that have been announced for a mid-season launch, featuring a story as old as time. That of (I’m sure you’ve guessed it by now) star-crossed lovers. They took it one step further, having them actually be from different planets. Here’s the synopsis: The Atrians, aliens from an unknown world, end up on Earth, causing panic and the most common human reaction: violence. They are rounded up, and taken to camps where they are slowly taught about humanity and our world in general. One of the younger Atrians had once been saved by a little human girl, before being taken away with the other aliens. Years later, during a social experiment meant to check if humans and Atrians can live together in peace, they stumble into one another.

Okay, it sounds a little cliched, given that they also fall in love, but I’m hopeful it will prove to be more than Romeo and Juliet with a dash of space adventures. The show features a cast of mostly young actors from shows such as Friday Night Lights, Pretty Little Liars, The Secret Circle, The Vampire Diaries, How I met your Mother and more, while the producers have worked on hit shows such as The Good Wife, Golden Boy or Life on Mars. They really had me at Golden Boy.

While the show sounds like a combination of Roswell and a bunch of other young adult oriented series, I’m actually keeping my fingers crossed that I will end up surprised. It’s been known to happen, particularly when it comes to the CW, where writers seem to love torturing their characters and viewers until at least one of them breaks. All in all, let’s hope for the best.

And if the show sucks? Well, at least there’s eye candy for everyone.
