SDCC 2016: Teaser Trailer for American Gods

So I’m still pretty much devastated about the cancellation of Hannibal last year, but the new American Gods trailer is doing a lot to make me feel better about it. An adaptation of the Neil Gaiman critically acclaimed novel created by Bryan Fuller who was showrunner for Hannibal, he’s now tasked with bringing the world of American Gods to life. And from viewing the trailer shown at SDCC by the Starz panel, it looks as though he’s done that perfectly.

The trailer is just a glimpse, but we begin to get an idea of the conflict between the deities of traditional religions (Egyptian, Norse, Native American, African) vs those that the populace now worship in modern day society (Technology, Media, Drugs, Money). Our protagonist is Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) and it’s his journey we follow as we delve into the world of the old Gods and the new, guided by Mr Wednesday (Ian McShane). And from what we can see in the trailer, the rest of the casting looks pretty much spot on too. Watch the trailer if you don’t believe me, and then watch it again because it looks absolutely bloody gorgeous.

It still hurts that there’ll be no more Hannibal, but I really, really can’t wait to see this. No premiere date, but American Gods will be showing on Starz in 2017.
