After a lot of critique, questions, bickering and measuring of the length of Hideo Kojima’s latest opus, Metal Gear Solid V Ground Zeroes finally receives a universal price drop to £19.99/€19,99, a drop of between £5 and £10 depending on platform. All versions will also come with the Jamais Vu and Deja Vu bonus missions.
The reasoning appears to be according to the press release that “[a]s interest continues to escalate for the forthcoming METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN, the new price-point will allow users to practice their sneaking skills ahead of Hideo Kojima’s next epic adventure.” Which appears to follow the same logic used for splitting the game into two parts to begin with.
The drop isn’t a spectacular one, since many retailers have already lowered the price of the game down to that price or lower, but it does seem to tacitly acknowledge the complaints by some players and reviewers that the game was far too short. Also, despite the announcement for Xbox One, Playstation 4, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360, there is no word on the price point of the upcoming Steam release of the game for PCs on December 18th, and given the often competitive pricing of Triple A games for the system, it will be interesting to see how Konami play the PC release.
That said, this price drop definitely a step in the right direction to get people to play a bite-size piece of what looks to be possibly Kojima’s finest hour, leading up to the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, to be released some time in 2015.
