Xbox One ‘Glitch’ Ad Revealed

Xbox One Glitch Ad Still

Microsoft has just come clean about a treasure hunt marketing campaign that they ran at the end of last month. At the end of January, Microsoft repeated their ‘Invitation’ ad that had originally aired back in October on UK TV. However, this time the TV ad for Microsoft’s Xbox One console contained a one second ‘glitch’.  In actual fact the glitch contained 25 frames of clues designed to lead the Xbox gaming community on a cryptic puzzle solving mission.

Graeme Boyd, Microsoft Social Marketing Manager stated:

“This campaign was designed with community engagement at its heart – and was built around our most popular Xbox games, encouraging gamers to work together, solve clues and ultimately discover big prizes.”

A little over 37 hours after the ad aired, Brad Butcher was the intrepid gamer who claimed what turned out to be a rather spankingly good prize from the good guys at Microsoft. As well as a shiny new Xbox One, Xbox Live Gold membership, assorted games and store credit, Brad also netted himself a Titanfall Collector’s Edition & a VIP trip to the Titanfall Launch. I wonder if Brad has stopped smiling yet.
