It appears that the teleporting mutant will be returning to the silver screen in that of Kodi Smit-McPhee, who has been added to the X-Men: Apocalypse cast as Nightcrawler. Director Bryan Singer revealed via Instagram that the up and coming actor will play the much-loved character upon the film’s 27th May, 2016 release.
As many of you will know from the Comics and the earlier X-Men cinematics, Kurt Wagner is the German X-Man with the ability to teleport. An acrobatic who’s not only a Catholic, but also the lovechild of mutant Mystique and demonic warlord Azazel; both of which have both made an appearance in the First Class universe. It is unlikely whether this specific origin will ever be explored, particularly as there has been no acknowledgement so far. However, fans of the film’s franchise have been eager to see the fuzzy-blue X-Man ever since his older self was included in the X2 parallel timeline.
Kodi Smit-McPhee, who has given steller performances in Let Me In and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, will join the cast led by James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult. Along with the return of Moira MacTaggart and newcomers Sophie Turner, Aexandra Shipp, and Tye Sheridan as the younger versions of Jean Grey, Storm and Cyclops. Oscar Isaac will also be stepping in to the role of mutant antagonist Apocalypse.
The film is said to be the conclusion of X-Men: First Class Saga, and will start shooting in Montreal in April for its 2016 release.
X-Men Apocalypse will be released 27th May, 2016.
