Welcome to our first feature of character fan art. The geek umbrella covers a number of different mediums from TV to comics to gaming, each featuring a range of beloved characters. To celebrate the diversity of our interests I intend to bring a regular selection of different artists take on one character.
Today’s chosen character is Wario, I know, an odd choice, but I didn’t want to go for the obvious characters first. Making his first appearance in Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins for the Gameboy back in 1992, this antagonist has gone onto have his own range of games.
Interesting fact I didn’t know: The name Wario is a combination of Mario and the Japanese adjective warui meaning ‘bad’ thus a ‘bad’ Mario. I just thought they had turned the M upside down.
Let’s start with a cutesie version of this bad boy, Poutty Wario by sillysimeongurl:
Next this realistic rendition, Wario by Robotpencil
The creepy nature and intricate details of this piece are impressive. Wario and Waluigi by sumox
This portrayal screams a man with a devious and sinister nature Wario by Josh Summana
Finally a bit of fun, the artist of this piece describes Wario as his hero, and has drawn him as such MY HERO by Zorrin
