Deadpool 2? A Cable Giveaway

You will be contacted by email / Facebook. in the next few days, to ask for details where we can post out your awesome Nerf Guns. ( if you want you can also private message us with your details here)

You will have two weeks to get back to us. If not claimed then another name will be picked at random.

Well the Long anticipated Deadpool Film, came foul mouthed and innuendo filled, all over our cinema screens in February and suffice to say the response was exactly as we all hoped; we all rolled over; lit a cigarette and laid there with the satisfaction of something beautiful; as if Geek and Film were one in a Deadpool embrace. We were indeed taken to pleasure town on the back of a unicorn. Nothing could be better right?

Well that’s what we thought, until the after credits sequence teased us with what was coming next.. teased us with one name… .

Course you do. Well we are going to give you a brief run down about Cable and those who might play him in the next Deadpool Movie and then you can feast your eyes on the wonderful Goodies Hasbro and Geek Pride have to offer you, at the bottom of the page.

So far “Deadpool” has broken three box office records: Biggest opening weekend in February (beating out “Fifty Shades of Grey,) biggest opening weekend in the winter (beating out “American Sniper,”) and biggest opening weekend for an R-rated film (beating out “The Matrix Reloaded.) So to drop a name in the end credits such as “Cable” had many fan boys screaming with joy and cosplayers around the world rushing to their design boards.

Now before we do go into the whole “cable” happy, happy, joy, joy, scenario, and the suspected actors to play him; let’s get some background info on him.

Cable (Nathan Summers) is a character featured in Marvel Comics, most commonly in association with X-Force and the X-Men. He is the adult son of the X-Man Cyclops (Scott Summers) and Madelyne Pryor (Jean Grey’s clone), he’s from a possible future timeline, having been transported, as an infant, to the future, where he grew into a warrior, before returning to the present.

The character first appeared as a newborn infant in Uncanny X-Men #201 (Jan. 1986), created by writer Chris Claremont, while Cable’s adult identity was conceived by writer Louise Simonson and artist/co-writer Rob Liefeld. Rob Liefeld being responsible for his visual design, name, and much of his personality; the adult Cable first appeared in The New Mutants #87 (March 1990).

All caught up? Great!

Cable is in simplest terms a “man of action” and a badass hands down.

Born with telepathic and telekinetic abilities, which have since burned out, his techno-organic body parts possess enhanced strength and durability and his techno-organic left eye gives him enhanced eyesight, allowing him to see farther than a normal human and in the infra-red spectrum.

On top of this he is also able to interface his techno-organic body parts with machinery, using them to hack into computers, open electronic locks, and travel through time (thanks to the help of Shi’ar tech); he is also an elite fighter and expert marksman with every weapon at his disposal.

Wolverine once said that “cable is to weapons what Mozart is to music”. Guns of all shapes but always of the gargantuan size, cable can access them all and use them in such a flawlessness manner that few are his equal.

He is also known for having more pouches on his body than any other character in the Marvel Universe, what he carries in them has often been speculated, all we know is that he can carry enough ammunition to supply a large Platoon of soldiers. Badass huh?

LOOK! Look at all those weapons!!!

Now, Star Ryan Reynolds is on record as hoping “Deadpool 2” may actually feature a “Cable and Deadpool” story as its plot many an actor has thrown their name into the proverbial ring.

So what are the main criteria for choosing an actor to play Cable?

Well he has to be an older gentleman (sorry, Keira Knightley Teehee), he has to bring the right balance of toughness and tragedy, and most importantly, he has to be as bulked. Using these guidelines, it’s important that Cable is done justice in the Merc with the Mouth’s follow-up.

Names include; Ron Perlman, Kevin Nash, Dolph Lundgren and Jon Hamm. One name though stands out from them all and is actually my Pic and Favourite for the role. Who is this man you ask? Stephen Lang!

One only needs to look at Stephen Lang to understand why he’s my number 1 choice. The grey hair, those huge arms, and the age: the resemblance is uncanny. Just imagine one of his arms being bionic and the other holding a massive gun, and it would look like Cable jumped straight out of the comics.

Even better, Lang is already campaigning to play Cable on his twitter account he posted this picture with the hashtag #layingsomecable and I nearly lost it. So as you can see I’m in full support of Stephen being cable. Follow him @Iamstephenlang and show support with the hashtag #layingsomecable.

I mentioned cosplayers earlier and its no secret that Comic cons around the globe have gone Deadpool crazy over the last couple of months; now with the announcement of “Cable” the loyal fans were seen running in a flash of grey haired wigs and shiny Worbla, straight for their design boards and roughing out their gun totting, futuristic Cosplays.

One such cosplayer is Titan Cosplay (featured picture, go give him a like!).

Now the best thing about doing a Cable cosplay, in fact the most enjoyable part of it, is the weaponry!

Many of us will be raiding a Toys R Us nearby for the only blastets that stand a chance of resembling Cables arsenal…Nerf.

Now Nerf has always held a special place in a cosplayer’s heart for out of the ordinary weapon designs, and their new Doomlands range by HASBRO looks the part for a badass Marksman with a never-ending supply of ammunition, don’t you think?

Wouldn’t it be great to have that arsenal at your ready… and for free?  Well guess what?

When our friends at Hasbro heard what we wanted to do, they gave us the opportunity to give you wonderful cosplayers, and fans of Cable, the chance to own such an arsenal, with the release of their Doomlands Vagabond and Law bringer heavy weapons; they’ve generously given us almost a Cache full of Nerf blasters that would even make Cable jealous. We have just over a 8 sets (of two) to give away for 8 lucky Geeks to get their hands on.
