Comedy Legend Harold Ramis Passes Away

haroldramis

Legendary actor, writer and director, Harold Ramis, has passed away at the age of 69. The Chicago Tribune reporting that his death was due to “complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis” and he died surrounded by his family.

Ramis is famous for creating some of geekdom’s most loved films. He has numerous creative credits to his name, including co-writing and co-starring in Ghostbusters, writing and directing Groundhog day and directing Caddy Shack, to name just a few of his incredible achievements.

He began his career as a member of the Second City improvisational troupe and the late-night sketch-comedy series SCTV before his move to writing films; starting with another classic 1978’s National Lampoon’s Animal House with Meatballs, Caddy Shack and Stripes following soon after. Although he had many roles in some of the greatest comedies, it is safe to say that the part he will be remembered for most is that of Egon Spengler the bespectacled, book smart and awkward geek; proving that geeks are awesome.

His passing is a great loss to the world but his many works of comedy will be appreciated by generations of geeks to come. Thank you, Mr Ramis and remember, don’t cross the streams!
