The final trailer for Luc Besson’s upcoming Valerian just appeared, and it further emphasises that it will be an eye popping visual feast featuring a vast sci-fi world full of colourful aliens, robots and more besides.
Adapted from the long running and influential French comic Valérian et Laureline by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets to use its full title is set in the far future of the 28th century. Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne feature as Valerian and Laureline. The pair are sent by their commander Arun, Clive Owen, to multi-cultural metropolis and trading hub Alpha, aka the City of a thousand planets, to deal with a mysterious arrival that threatens to destroy Alpha.
This will be the second film Besson has made adapted from a long running French comic, the first being 2010’s The Extraordinary Adventures of Adèle Blanc-Sec loosely based on Les Aventures extraordinaires d’Adèle Blanc-Sec by Jacques Tardi (amongst various others).
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is in UK cinemas August 4.
