In a world full of adaptations, remakes, sequels and revivals, I have to admit that the return of Mary Poppins is the one thing I am actually looking forward too.
Last week’s Oscars saw the release of the first teaser trailer of the heavily anticipated (at least by me) return of the best nanny a kid could want.
Emily Blunt will portray Mary Poppins, 54 years after Julie Andrews first brought her to life and to universal acclaim. A tough mantle to carry, but I am sure she can pull it off, she definitely has the talent for it.
The trailer reveals very little so far, nothing more than glimpses of the all star cast – Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer and Lin Manuel Miranda – who will play Jack, Bert’s apprentice (I do pray to all the gods he either forgoes an accent or is stellar at it). Meryl Streep, Angela Lansbury, Colin Firth and Dick van Dyke will also be making appearances in the new movie, just in case you were not yet convinced to show up at the cinema.
The story will focus on the now adult Jane and Michael Banks and his three children, in the wake of a terrible loss. As before, Mary Poppins comes when she is needed the most, to bring back the joy that was once again missing in the lives of the Banks family members.
I don’t know about you, but I can hardly wait for December to see this, admittedly because I am a huge fan of everyone that is set to be in the movie and particularly curious about how Emily Blunt and Lin-Manuel Miranda will hold up against my love for Mary Poppins and Bert.
