We’ve still got a while to wait for the next series of True Blood, especially over here in the UK as the first episode doesn’t air until 16th June in the US. Excitement this Easter weekend however, as HBO released the first taste of what’s in store for Sookie and co. this June.
Series six will only bring us ten episodes rather than the typical twelve, due to Anna Paquin being on maternity leave, although arguably, Sookie Stackhouse is the least interesting thing about this show. Saying that, I think we can expect more of Sookie this season than the last, with the search for Warlow, a mysterious character introduced in the last series being a possible center-point this Summer. However, it’s been suggested that rather than Sookie, it will be Jason at the centre of the hunt for Warlow, so maybe we’ll see more of him this series.
That, or Bill being an ubervamp (hopefully there are some Buffy fans out there who’ll actually get that reference). That’s right folks, those closing scenes of series five had our usual charming fellow Bill Compton ‘reborn’ as some sort of vampire demi-god.
After drinking the vampire ‘god’ Lilith’s blood, Bill appeared to be destroyed before being resurrected from a pool of blood before letting out a lovely demonic roar. So, what could be in store for Bill this season? Let’s take a look at the teaser released over the weekend.
Okay, so it’s only thirty seconds long, but what a fabulous, fang-filled thirty seconds it is. We see everyone in a state of utter panic and a suggestion of a war between vampires and humans rising, which was built up in series five. Jason appears to be on the hunt for answers regarding his family’s past and Bill is running around being a naked, blood-covered lunatic.
Werewolves only make a slight appearance with Joe Manganiello’s character Alcide getting a brief shot, so perhaps their involvement will be played down this season to make way for new characters. Also, hopefully much, much more of Alexander Skarsgard’s Eric Northman, who we saw escaping with Sookie in the season finale.
We’ll also be introduced to some new characters this series, including a new possible love interest for Sookie in the form of faerie Ben, played by British actor Robert Kazinsky, former Eastenders star. Seriously, that girl gets all of the supernaturals wanting to get into her pants.
We’ll meet Governer Truman Burrell (Arliss Howard), a man with a strong grudge against the vampires after his wife left him for one. That brings us to his vampire sympathiser daughter, Willa (90210′s Amelia Rose Blaire) and a mysterious and sinister new character, Macklyn Warlow (Rutger Hauer) who will surely be a big character this Summer.
Whatever’s in store for Eric, Bill, Sookie and co. in series six, it looks set to be a great season, action-packed and full of gore. Personally, I can’t wait for another taste of True Blood.
