The teaser trailer for Luc Besson’s upcoming sci-fi extravaganza Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets here and looks pretty sumptuous and spectacular. Why yes that is The Beatles you can hear, the first time their music has ever been licensed for use in a film trailer.
Valerian is based on the long running acclaimed French graphic novel series Valérian and Laureline. Created by writer Pierre Christin and artist Jean-Claude Mézières beginning in 1967 and finishing in 2010 it centred around the adventures of Valérian a spatio-temporal agent, and his partner Laureline, as they travel the universe through space and time.
Besson’s film features Dane DeHaan as Valerian and Cara Delevingne as Laureline.
What makes this pretty interesting in Luc Besson’s previous acclaimed sci-fi entry The Fifth Element was clearly inspired by, but not a direct adaptation of, The Incal another seminal French graphic novel written by Alejandro Jodorowsky with art from Jean Giraud amongst others. For more on that go here.
Valerian is set to appear in July 2017.
